Let me go tonight.
When I come back,
I will sing you a lullaby,
Your little hands holding me tight,
A little you clung to my chest.
Don’t make it more difficult,
I am already crying inside.
Heart wrenching I know for you,
You will never know what it is doing to me.
I promise you little one,
When I come back,
I will sing you a lullaby,
And tell you stories of fairies and butterflies.
Don’t cry please; you are my everything,
I will tie your pig tails,
Play your sweet innocent games,
Be your horse if you like.
But let me go tonight,
I have no choice.
At the front a war to fight,
But none bigger than the one inside.
Close your eyes and sleep now,
While I slip away.
No demons to scare you,
The lucky charm that you are.
So many like me by my side, and the other
Leaving their Lucky charms at home.
I go to war little one,
Your thoughts in my heart.
I live for you,
Have I not told you?
You are my everything,
And remember this for always-
IF I come back, I will sing you a lullaby
