The Power of Silence

The Power of Silence

The call of a distant bird pierced the silence. The river was dry but it showed off little trickles of moisture here and there. Probably, it was trying in vain to sustain the life it supported during the rains. There was calmness all around.

The tea gardens in the background looked lush and green. Light wispy clouds meandered in gay abandon as they kissed the clear November sky. The lure of the hills outlined the horizon crisply. Everything was perfect. Just the way God had planned it to be. Silent, serene and beautiful.

The intense harmony in the air was strangely palpitating

I could hear the ambient sounds ringing in my ears like never before. Even the cry of the smallest cricket was loud and clear. I could feel a strange vacuum reverberating in my mind and body. Everything seemed to be hollow and empty for once. There were no humans around – just nature, me and more natural surroundings beyond. In this setting, gradually and smoothly, the nectar served by nature was seeping into my veins.

And then the magic happened.

Was it a flute that decided to participate in the symphony? A sweet tune sneaked into the other sounds and added a new touch. I looked around for the source but finding none, settled back to enjoy the gift. The sound of the hills beyond, the light gurgling of water, the numerous chirps, the swaying of early winter flowers and the new decibels emanating from the magical flute – they were all joining hands to caress me rewardingly.

It was heavenly

There was a strange correlation in all that I was feeling with what I had learnt from guided meditation techniques. The difference was that my eyes were open, my senses were on high alert and my mind was still calm enough to enjoy it all.

I mused at the thought of how we can get peace and joy so easily – just by connecting ourselves with nature. The absence of concrete, humans and intervening thoughts is enough to enjoy the sanctity and serenity of our inner self. We wander from pillar to post looking for guides and guidance. Is nature not the premier that leads all guides since eternity? Is it not the strongest and most powerful guiding force? Is nature not the lifeline for all living and non-living entities on earth?

So, friends, take a deep breath and look earnestly and silently for anything natural near you. I am sure that you will also find the peace you seek. After all, we are all babies belonging to the same bosom – that of Mother Nature.
