A piece of mosaic art is extremely time consuming and takes one to two months to make, depending on the size and intricacy of the work. A conversation starter, this piece of art is created around a mirror which is within a wooden framework and has mosaic art along one side.
A labour intensive process, mosaic art involves four basic steps.
- Compose and design an outline.
- Manually cut mosaic tiles and stained-glass pieces to the desired shape and size and paste them on the substrate.
- Fill in the crevices in the piece – a process called grouting.
- Polish the artwork to perfection before it can be showcased in homes or offices
