Diwali, the Festival of Lights

Devi Choudhury | November 12, 2020
Diwali, the Festival of Lights

Night skies dazzle in drizzling amber,

A nip in the air dispels tones of sombre.

Every heart desires more, a little more,

Mundanity breaks in festive galore.

The fragrance of freshly painted walls,

Exudes joy in shimmery stars and balls.

In glittering necklaces streets are ablaze,

Lanes-by lanes are a buzzing multi-hued maze.

A sunburnt face, yet a sparkle in the eye,

A rainbow-like dream that glows so high.

Dawn to dusk toil, since her childhood,

Earns her meagre for her livelihood.

Her little ones await her at the threshold,

For a few lamps and fireworks to behold.

Little cottage will soon deck up in light,

Brighter than the brightest hut in sight.

Her festival of light is her joyful children,

In their mirth is her happiness hidden.

A prayer she murmurs in deep silence,

Sunshine is her life in their pure innocence.
